Summary:

 

The Long Term Substitute (LTS) Floating Teacher will provide coverage to Bucks County Intermediate Unit Special Education Teachers across a school year under the discretion of the program supervisor.  The LTS Floating Teacher is responsible for ensuring the continuation of academic and/or functional skill instruction in order to maintain consistency in programming based on lesson plans developed by the classroom teacher.  Teacher coverage may be an entire school day or one half day.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Maintaining the daily schedule, structure and organization as outlined in the substitute plans
  • Following the established individualized and/or class-wide behavior support systems for all students
  • Overseeing the safety of all students and staff
  • Assisting with feeding and toileting needs of all students
  • Allow for flexibility in daily schedule based on program needs

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands. The employee is frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee may be required to stand for long periods, and to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:  

 

This is a full-time, 185-day calendar position. Start and end times are dependent upon each school’s reporting schedule.

 

Travel:   Travel between schools will be required.  Travel will be dependent upon supervisor developed schedule.

 

Education and Experience:

 

      Level of Degree:

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or Master's Degree
  • PA Special Education Certification

 

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • High energy level and ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of team members 
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, specifically those exhibiting delays in communication, behavior as well as social and functional living skills
  • Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis, specifically prompting, shaping, reinforcement
