Summary/Objective:


Bucks IU oversees the Title I D grant for Bucks County Youth Center to provide tutoring in reading and mathematics within the treatment facility.  Utilizing computer-based diagnostic assessments, the Title I tutor will provide lesson plans that address the individual’s educational need.  Progress will be monitored utilizing a pre-testing upon entrance and post-testing prior to discharge.  Remediation is based on academic needs as well as student individual transition goals of either returning to their home school, completing a GED, admission to post-secondary education, or entering the work force. This is an hourly position based on a 4.5-hour day, 4 days per week, while school is in session.

 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Administer computer-based assessment test to determine the success of students served under Title I funds. Maintain records regarding pre-test and post-test.
  • Act as a liaison between the teachers and the students in the classroom, as well as teach appropriate behavior to be used in the classroom.
  • Collect and assess data on the number of students who, through remedial education, show:
    • Progress in the grade level through pre/post testing assessments
    • Are able to obtain credit to enter a mainstream educational program
    • Are able to earn credit to complete requirements for grade promotion
    • Obtain a GED or High School Diploma
    • Enter a vocational program such as Federal Job Corps Programs
    • Enter military service
  • Provide GED tutoring for students seeking to obtain their GED.
  • Provide support for regular education teachers.
  • Provide an environment which fosters respect and positive peer interaction.
  • Work with the administration to provide documentation of residents who participate in the program, documentation of hours worked, and provide regular updates.
  • Meet periodically with Bucks IU Title I program coordinator or Bucks IU Program Director of Federal and Nonpublic Programs to provide program updates.
  • Complete PA N&D Title I Assessment Reporting System form. Maintain a “hard copy” log of the forms.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands. The employee is frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee may be required to stand for long periods, and to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

This is an hourly position based on a 4.5 hour day, 4 days per week, while school is in session.

Education and Experience:

 

Level of Degree:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • PA Secondary Mathematics Certification
