Summary/Objective:
The Bucks IU van driver works cooperatively with the Supervisor of Transportation, the Transportation Dispatcher, Lead Drivers, as well as principals, teachers, instructional assistants and other drivers in all matters related to the transportation of school students. The Van Driver has the responsibility for driving his/her vehicle as safely and efficiently as possible, and to perform all duties related to driving the vehicle as listed below.
Essential Functions:
The Bucks IU Van Driver has the responsibility of safely transporting students with special needs to their educational program meeting all of the requirements of the students' IEP. Students should arrive at their educational program with a demeanor conducive to learning. Drivers must have all students properly secured in the vehicle. Drivers must follow all of the policies and procedures of the Transportation Department as outlined in the Driver's Manual.
Physical Demands:
Drivers are expected to install car seats and other safety equipment. Drivers should be able to assist students in and out of the van as well as their securements. Drivers should be physically able to drive all of the vans in the Bucks IU fleet. Drivers should be able to safely evacuate all students from the van in case of emergencies.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Drivers are expected to work up to 8 hours per day. Starting hours begin as early as 6:00 AM when transporting high school students and can end as late as 5:00 PM if transporting elementary schools.
Travel: The route begins and ends at the driver's home.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Ability to function independently without general supervision.
Experience with children, especially those with special needs.
Level of Degree: N/A
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledgeable of Bucks County.
Excellent driving record and driving skills.
