Summary/Objective:

 

The internship for counselor provides supervised experience in direct service and consultation for Bucks County students, ages 0-21. Students may be included in regular education or receive instruction in a special education program.

 

The experience provides the Counselor intern with direct supervision in both direct counseling services to students as well as opportunities to network with supporting community agencies on behalf of students.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Individual and group counseling including problem-solving, coping skills, social skills, adaptive skills
  • Parent education and support
  • Program and curriculum development to support student emotional/social needs
  • Consultation with school and agency staff
  • IEP and/or MDT participation
  • Crisis intervention
  • Resource coordination

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to handle, or feel. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

 

The counselor internship is available for an academic year, September through June, with accommodations provided to meet requirements of the graduate school. 

 

Travel:  Throughout Bucks County

 

Education and Experience:

 

      Level of Degree:

      2nd year counselor student from an accredited program

 

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of counseling practices, core competencies, and ethics
  • Positive interpersonal skills
  • Effective time management skills
  • Ability to work independently
